Photo Rejuvenation
IPL Photo Rejuvenation is a safe, easy, and quick way to eliminate common complexion flaws, providing you with smoother, healthier, younger-looking skin. Photorejuvenation is often referred to as Photofacial, but can be used to treat the face, neck, chest and even the hands.
How does it work?
Filtered energy from different parts of the light spectrum is pulsed in precise dosages through a handpiece to the targeted area. The Palomar Lux system allows us to use levels of energy specific to your skin condition to maximize your individual results. The light energy is absorbed by the pigment or by the blood (in facial veins, rosacea and hemangioma), and it gets converted to heat. This heat dissolves the cells that create the unwanted pigment and/or shrinks the unattractive blood vessels. Over the next few weeks, the dead cells will be sloughed off and the shrunken veins will be absorbed by your body.
Who are the best candidates for Photo Rejuvenation?
Anyone who wants to clear up an area of skin flawed by any of the following:- Pigmentation: Liver Spots/Age Spots, Sun Damage
- Rosacea (redness of cheeks and face)
- Facial Veins or Spider Veins anywhere (Individual red, blue, or purple vessels)
- Hemangiomas (red birthmark or raised cluster of blood vessels)
- Enlarged Pores
What is the treatment like?
Treatments take between 15 - 30 minutes. Most patients describe the sensation to be like the snap of a rubber band on the skin as the pulses of energy are delivered through the handpiece. Some patients opt to have a topical anesthesia. There is no significant discomfort following treatment. How soon will I see results?
Pigmentation / Sunspots: The spots will darken after treatment and be naturally shed from the skin within 1-2 weeks, replaced by new non-pigmented skin cells.
Rosacea: Skin tone will be more normal, with less redness within a week after treatment.
Hemangiomas / Facial Veins/ Spider Veins: Vessels may disappear after treatment or they may appear darker and then fully or partially fade within 10-14 days.
Typically, several treatments will be necessary to achieve complete clearance of pigmentation, rosacea, hemangiomas, and spider veins. Improvements will continue to increase cumulatively with each treatment.
What will recovery be like?
RejuveLux appointments are quick, and you can return to work or other activities, looking and feeling fine! Post-procedure discomfort is almost nonexistent. For some patients, the treated skin may appear a little flushed or it may feel like a mild sunburn for a few hours. Pigmented areas will darken at first and then fade as the treated skin cells slough off, usually in 7-10 days. There is no discomfort associated with that process. It's that simple. Following treatment, you should avoid harsh skin cleansers and use sunscreen for 10 days. If foundation makeup is desired, mineral makeup is recommended.
