What causes facial veins and rosacea?
We do not know all of the causes, but telangiectasias and rosacea are often related to heredity, oral contraceptives, hormone therapy, sun exposure or the aging process.
How do the treatments work?
The tiniest veins can be eliminated with our light and laser technology. For optimum results, we select the specific type of laser enerty that will be most effective on each tiny vein. The Palomar system delivers precise dosages of energy to each vein, with a minimal risk to the skin. During these treatments, microbeams of energy are delivered through a special handpiece to the targeted vein in a series of brief pulses. The energy is absorbed by the blood vessel, causing a thermocoagulation (clogging) of the blood vessel. The clogged vessel is then slowly absorbed by the body and gradually disappears.
Will the treatments work on my face?
Prior to treatment we will review your medical history to determine your skin type, how long you have had a problem with facial veins, and if you have had any prior skin treatments on your face. We will also discuss your objectives and fully explain your treatment and projected outcome.
Do the laser treatments hurt? Are they safe?
Most patients describe the sensation to be like the snap of a rubber band on the skin as the pulses of energy are delivered through the handpiece. No anesthesia is necessary. Most patients experience no discomfort after the treatment. Because the laser energy is absorbed by the vein, and not the surrounding tissue, it is safe for all skin types. Our Palomar/Lux™ system is rated as the leader in effectiveness and the most comfortable vein treatment available.

How many treatments will I need?
Typically, multiple treatments are necessary to achieve optimal results. Tiny pink and red vessels usually require 2-3 treatments to achieve acceptable results. Veins that are darker or purplish are usually more difficult to remove and require more treatments. Treatments are spaced at 4 - 6 week intervals.
How long do treatments take?
Depending on the number of vessels treated and their location, treatments usually take several minutes.
What will my recovery be like?
Most patients experience no discomfort after the treatment, but your skin may feel slightly tender for several days. If veins darken before they begin to fade away, they can be covered with mineral make-up until they fade away, which may take up to two weeks. Avoid harsh skin cleansers and use sunscreen for two weeks.
How soon will I see results?
Facial Veins/ Spider Veins: Vessels may disappear after treatment of they may appear darker and then fully or partially fade within 10-14 days.
Rosacea: Skin tone will be more normal, with less redness within a week after treatment.
Typically, several treatments will be necessary to achieve complete clearing of spider veins and rosacea. Patients with rosacea will see a progressive reduction in redness with every treatment.
