BELLINGHAM, WA    January 7, 2010

Palomar Industries has announced that the Palomar Lux1540™ Fractional non-ablative laser has received the first clearance by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for the treatment of striae (stretch marks) using a fractional laser. Stretch marks are a form of scarring due to pregnancy, rapid weight gain, or body building. Palomar laser technology is used by Dr. Roy Taylor at Bayside Vein & Laser Center in Bellingham and this new clearance expands their treatment options to include minimizing or eliminating stretch marks. The treatment is performed in the office in several sessions, about thirty minutes each. No anesthesia is required and patients can resume normal activity immediately. Light-Based Aesthetic Treatments Gain in Versatility and Popularity

BELLINGHAM, WA – AUGUST 18, 2007

Dr. Roy Taylor is pleased to announce he will be offering advanced laser and pulsed-light treatments in his office at Bayside Vein and Laser Center. If you live with unwanted facial or body hair, sun spots, age spots, facial veins, spider veins, or acne, you may be surprised to find that these conditions can all be treated with safe and effective laser and light-based technology.

“Most people are familiar with laser hair removal or some other form of light-based hair reduction,” says Dr. Taylor. “But few know how versatile and comfortable light-based treatments have become. We’re at the point where one system can treat unwanted hair, sunspots, spider veins, acne, leg veins, rosacea, and more. It’s a tremendous advantage to both doctor and patient to treat all of these conditions without having to use multiple systems or refer the patient to another location.”

During treatments, filtered light is directed onto the skin and absorbed by the melanin in hair or pigmented lesions, and hemoglobin in the blood in visible vessels. For permanent hair reduction, the light effectively disables the hair follicles. For sun spots or age spots, the cells containing the unwanted pigment are targeted. In the case of vessels, the light is absorbed by the hemoglobin in the veins, causing them to shrink and fade from view.

“We also offer comprehensive photofacials, treating each layer of the skin with specific technologies,” says Dr. Taylor. “Our skin rejuvenation system makes for safe and effective treatments; most patients describe the light pulses as a slight ‘snapping’ sensation, which causes mild discomfort at most. After the treatment, there may be some redness for a day or two, but that quickly fades and the patient can enjoy clearer, younger-looking skin.”

New Certification for Bayside Vein & Laser Center

THE BELLINGHAM HERALD, BELLINGHAM, WA SEPTEMBER, 2006

Jill C. Ross, Certified Medical Assistant at Bayside Vein & Laser Center, completed a Sigvaris® Seminar on Compression Therapy for treatment of varicose veins. This qualifies Ross as a certified fitter for compression stockings.

“The real bonus is for the patients,” explains Ross. “They can now be fitted and get their stockings at the time of their clinic visit rather than having to make an appointment at another location.”

Bayside Vein & Laser Center, owned and operated by Roy Taylor, M. D., specializes in treatment of varicose veins and spider veins using the newest technology. Ross has worked at Bayside since it opened in June.

New Focus for Long-time Bellingham Surgeon

BELLINGHAM, WA June, 2006

After 24 years of a busy vascular surgery practice, Dr. Roy Taylor is refocusing his specialty with the latest advances in laser technology at Bayside Vein & Laser Center. Instead of “scrubbing in” for major surgery at the hospital, he now scrubs for more patient-friendly treatments in his own procedure room.

“Technology has dramatically changed the way we treat veins, making major surgery unnecessary,” explains Taylor. “Vein-stripping is ancient history. We’ve ushered in a whole new era of compassionate vein treatment with much less discomfort and rapid recovery.”

Bellingham resident Lanny Speyer appreciates the relief it gave him. “I was pleased that I could get both legs done in one day with this new procedure. It was great not to need general anesthesia. I now take extended walks without fatigue or pain!” Speyer beams as he recounts how his higher energy level since the vein procedure allows him to keep up with his two active grandsons.

Bayside Vein & Laser Center offers state of the art outpatient treatment for all levels of vein disorders. “We get a lot of women who just want to erase their spider veins,” says Jill Ross, Certified Medical Assistant. “They’re so happy with the new laser procedures that can enhance their self-confidence when they put on shorts or a swimsuit.”

An Anacortes resident recalls searching “a long time to find someone north of Seattle who does this kind of treatment” for her daughter, who recently had laser therapy at Bayside to eliminate her varicose veins. “Patients love having everything done in one place,” says Ross. All the diagnostic imaging is done under the same roof, reducing the number of trips a patient has to make to get a procedure done.

Dr. Taylor says he doesn’t really miss doing surgery at the hospital. “At the end of the day it feels good to know I’ve made people happy by relieving pain and improving their lifestyles.”
